June 2005 Reunion

The 2005 Sloper Reunion was held in beautiful Trinity County at the Bushy Tail Campground on June 23, 24 and 25. On display were 15 charts of different family lines and many binders of the research completed by Loma Sloper Taylor and Ted Taylor over the years.

After setting up on Wednesday and Thursday, dinner on Thursday was at the Trinity Alps Resort on the deck, which overlooks the Stewards Fork River. John and Charlotte Scott's 44th wedding anniversary was celebrated at dessert.

Friday started with a breakfast at John and Charlotte Scott's home, followed by a tour of the off grid home and the micro-hydro system which provides power. This was followed by the horseshoe tournament, a cribbage tournament and a trip to historic Weaverville for sight seeing and shopping. A potluck dinner prepared by Slopers at the campground ended the day.

Saturday started with another beautiful day of clear blue sky and a wonderful temperature and included breakfast, cribbage, horseshoe tournaments and a spirited auction that raised more than $500 for the next reunion. Two Forest Service employees joined the Slopers for a talk about the history and recreational activities in the area. Loma added the history of Andrew Jackson Sloper, who lived in the Trinity County area and died in nearby Weaverville in the 1850's.

After a lunch cooked by chief chef Mark Sloper, awards were announced.

A more somber moment was a remembrance for the five Slopers who have died since the last reunion.
